Notes for John Paul BRACKEN

BRACKEN JOHN P., 98, of Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth, formerly of Paoli, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Know to his family and personal friends as "Jack", he was born on June 10, 1912 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania as the fourth of six children of John P. Bracken and Elizabeth A. Paul. His beloved wife, Elizabeth Perot Bracken passed away January 12, 2010. Mr. Bracken earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburg in 1934 and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1939. He proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict for which he received many awards, before retiring as a Captain. A prominent attorney and civic leader, Mr. Bracken served as the managing partner of the Philadelphia law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. In 1972, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce awarded him its most coveted honor, the William Penn award. He was a director of the Philadelphia National Bank, the Pocono Lake Preserve, and he was President of the U.S. Bi-Centennial Commission for the President of the United States. Survivors: he is survived by step-children: Dorothy Latimer Greer, William Latimer, Betsy Latimer Miller and Sally Latimer Withers; a nephew, Frank Bracken; devoted private duty caregiver, Sherri Navatier. In addition to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, he was predeceased by a step-daughter, Ann Latimer Strate who passed away February 02, 2010. Services: a memorial service in celebration of Mr. Bracken's life will be held on Saturday, October 02, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley (Episcopal), 2475 St. Peter's Road, Malvern, PA 19355.
