Notes for Ruth Ann WESLAGER

Ann Weslager Tatnall, 80, passed away on January 7, 2016 at Friends Village at Woodstown.

Ann was born on June 1, 1935 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Clinton Alfred Weslager and Ruth Hurst Weslager. She graduated from H.C. Conrad high school in Wilmington, Delaware in 1953. She received her BS from the University of Delaware and MA from Glassboro State College (Rowan University).

Moving to Woodstown, New Jersey in 1964, she was very active in the Salem County area. Ann was a reading specialist at the Pedricktown School retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Woodstown Presbyterian Church, Woodstown Womans Club, and AAUW. For many years Ann was co-chair of the Woodstown By Candlelight house tour, served as president of the Pilesgrove-Woodstown Historical Society and secretary of the Woodstown Historical Preservation Commission. She was on the board of trustees of the Woodstown-Pilesgrove Library, United Way of Salem County, Salem County YMCA and a member of the Salem County Cultural and Heritage Commission. She was a part of Hands Across the Water, Russian/USA teachers exchange and made many subsequent trips to Russia. In 1988 Ann was recipient of the New Jersey governors Teacher Recognition award and in 1998 was named Salem County Woman of Achievement.

Ann was a member of the Junior Board of the Wilmington (Del.) Medical Center and PEO.

She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, driving her sporty cars and watching University of Delaware football, attending most of their games, home and away, for over fifty years. Ann took pride in restoring and then living in her historic home in Woodstown.

Ann is survived by her husband of 61 years, George G. Tatnall, daughter Peggy Ann Tatnall, son George Richardson Tatnall (Debi), granddaughters Sara and Amy Tatnall, and brother Thomas Weslager (Sue). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Clinton (Elizabeth).

A memorial service will be held at Woodstown Presbyterian Church, 46 Auburn Road, Woodstown at 11AM on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
