Notes for William Pennock ROGERS

William Pennock Rogers, was born at Harford County, Maryland, September 16, 1842. He was educated in the Aldino public schools. He married: Dee Browning, 1878.
He served as Corporal, Company H, 7th Maryland Volunteer Infantry from August 21, 1862. He was discharged, May 4, 1865, and was appointed from Maryland as a Second Lieutenant, 44th United States Infanry, July 28, 1866. He transferred to the 17th United States Infantry, May 27, 1869. He was promoted to First Lieutenant, October 3, 1872, to Captain, December 23, 1884, to Major, 20th
United States Infantry, December 15, 1898, to Lieutenant Colonel, 29th United States Infantry, February 2, 1901. He was transferred to the 22nd United States Infantry, March 21, 1901. He was then promoted to Colonel, 30th United States Infantry, June 28, 1902, and to Brigadier General, April 20, 1903. He retired from the service at his own request, with over 30 years of service, April 21, 1903.
During the Civil War he served in the Army of the Potomac, and participated in the battle of Spottsylvania Court House, May 8, 1864, where was wounded, losing his left arm. He then served in the South, 1866-70, in the West, 1870-94.
He was also wounded in the affair with Sioux Indians on Heart River, Dakota, October 3, 1872.
He made his home in San Antonio, Texas, where he died May 12, 1916. He was then buried with full military honors in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery.
His wife, Dee Browning Rogers, 1852-1932, is buried with him.
