Notes for William Holmes SHARPLESS

William H. Sharpless, who lived just over the line in Trowbridge township, died last Saturday, aged eight-eight years. He had been sick several weeks, but paralysis was the immediate cause of death The funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. George R. Arnold of Allegan officiating and burial took place in the Blackman cemetery. Mr. Sharpless was a native of Pennsylvania, having been born at Connellsville, Feb. 14, 1813. He married Miss Eliza Weston of Rochester, N.Y., in 1839 and of the nine children born to them five survive-- Frank, Charles, and Preston of Trowbridge, Joseph of South Bend, Ind., and Mrs. H. M. Parker of Campbell, Calif. Mr. Sharpless served his county in the Civil war enlisting in the 130th New York infantry in 1862 and remaining in the service until discharged for disability in January 1864. He had resided in Trowbridge several years, and was one of the township's respected citizens.
