Notes for William Freeman THOMAS

Rev. William Thomas' ancestors settled in Hilltown, Bucks Co., Pa. His father, Freeman Thomas, settled in Luzerne Co., was a pioneer in the Penna. coal-fields, and was owner of the Grand Tunnel and Avondale coalmine. William was an Episcopalian, and was educated for the Christian ministry at Wilkesbarre, Pa., but afterward joined the Christian Church and spent much time in evangelistic labors. He was pastor of several churches in New York State, but, having frail health, he retired from the active ministry several years before his death.
