Notes for Walter Daniel BUTLER

Walter Daniel Butler, age 92, of Elkton, MD, died Saturday, November 1, 2008. Born in Cherry Hill, MD, on April 5, 1916, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude Dreibelbis Butler. (Arrangements by Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton, MD)

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Butler was a 1st Sgt., 115th Infantry, Co. E, 29th Division, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. A proud veteran, he displayed his U.S. Flag faithfully every day.

Mr. Butler retired from Arlon, Bear, DE, and had previously worked at the Budd Co., and Avon Products, both in Newark, DE. He previously owned his own business, The Golden Skillet, Chesapeake City, MD.

He was a charter member of the 29th Division Association Post 85. He enjoyed working and helping others.

Survivors include his children, John T. "Jack" Butler and wife, Sue, Gail Shelby and friend, Don Sample, and Rodney Dickerson and wife, Debbie, all of Elkton, MD, and Glenn Dickerson and wife, Dee, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his wife, Louise K. Butler; a son, Walter E. Butler; and a sister, Dorothy B. Hitchens.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, with visitation on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation or the 29th Division in care of the funeral home.
