Notes for Winfred Linn EDSALL

YORK Winifred E. Alcorn, 84, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at York Hospital. She was the wife of David S. Alcorn with whom she celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on March 21, 2012. Born March 31, 1928, in Willoughby, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Richard Everett, Jr. and Clara (Raskopf) Edsall. Winifred was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Winifred A. McDonagh of York; three sons, David E. Alcorn of the Philippines, Charles S. Alcorn and his wife, Donna of York, and Richard E. Alcorn and his wife, Kathy of Amherst, Mass.; as well as seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her twin, Barbara E. Ludwig, and her older sister, Ann E. Woodhouse. She had a lifelong commitment to the civil rights movement. Recently she was engaged in a variety of charitable activities including the food bank at her church in Reading and was a member of the American Rhododendron Society. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County, 416 Franklin St., Reading 19602 on December 8, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens, 631 Berwyn Baptist Road, Devon, PA 19333.
