Notes for John David NICHOLOY

John David Nicholoy, also known as "Captain Nick," of Rock Hall, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011. He was 83.
Nick proudly served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for 40 years and also served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Sea Poacher. His love for the water started when he was a boy and his father would take him out on the Chesapeake Bay. Nick enjoyed traveling to Key West and Louisiana, where he enjoyed Cajun food and great music. He met Ernest Hemingway during one of his visits to the Keys. Nick took great care with his garden and will be remembered for the enormous tomatoes he produced.
Nick was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine M. Nicholoy, and son, Edmund Ruberto.
He is survived by his sons, F. Joseph Ruberto and Robert Ruberto and wife Nancy; daughter, Rosemarie Collier and husband Tom; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Del.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Peniel United Methodist Church, 115 E. Market Street, Newport, DE 19804 or Heartland Hospice, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
