Notes for Ellis P. WOOD

He was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the Doe Run area. His early life was spent in Steelville where he was born and at Romanville, but for the 40 years prior to his death he lived in West Marlborough. He was a farmer by occupation but had been retired for many years. He served as Justice of the Peace and as Tax Collector for a number of years. He was a birthright member of the Society of Friends, attending Ercildoun Meeting, and was upright and genial in all his ways.
The farm upon which he died, in West Marlborough, had been originally purchased by his father in 1865. It was originally the home of arctic explorer Isaac Hayes. It was known as the "Bellevue Farm".
