Notes for John MORTON

John Morton (1724-77) was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of Continental Congress from Pennsylvania. He was born and died in Delaware County, Pa.
John
Morton was born in Chester County, now Deleware County, 1724 and died there in April, 1777. His ancestors were Swedish emigrants to Philadelphia. He was elected Justice of the Peace in 1764, to the General Assembly and as Sheriff of Chester County in 1776, Judge of the Supreme Court, member of the Continental Congress, and at his death in 1777 declared that the signing of the Declaration of Independance was the most glorious service that he rendered to his country.
