The Directors of the Pennsyvania (Hospital) Lose Their Chief

Presidernt William BIDDLE, of the Board of Managers of the Pennsylvania Hospital, died yesterday morning at the age of 82 at the residence of Mr. George JONES, in Germantown. Mr. BIDDLE had been ill only a few days. A week ago he attended a meeting of the board. He was a member of the Society of Friends and the father of Mr. Samuel BIDDLE, of the jewelry firm of Bailey, Banks & BIDDLE, Twelfth and Chestnut Streets. Beginning life as a drugist, he was engaged in that business for a number of years at Eleventh and Arch Streets. His retirement from active business pursuits took place about twenty five years ago. He had been slnce 1848 a member of tbe Board of Managers of the Pennsylvania Hospital, and had held the position of president for many years. He had also been president for fifteen years of tbe Minehill and Schuylklll Haven Railroad Company, and was connected with the management of the Magdalen Asylum and other charitable Institutions. He had been in the habit of spending the winters in tbe city and the summers at the residence of Mr. JONES, steward of the Pennsylvania Hospital for the insane.
