Notes for James W. TALLEY

James W. Talley, 80, passed away peacefully at home Friday December 28, 2018.

Jim graduated from A.I. DuPont High School, class president 1956. His parents Norman and Margaret Talley were well known for their Talley corner garden on Foulk and Shipley roads.

A lifelong resident of Talleyville DE, Jim grew up within walking distance from his home to the family business Talley’s Inc. The business employed his father Norman, his older brother Len Talley, himself, and his son Jimmy. As well, as a neighbor Jim Tyrrell made being Jim confusing so he decided to be a “Sam”.

Sam will always be remembered as a sweet soul and first to the rescue when asked for help. Endlessly devoted to his work, he could be found working 11-hour days nearly until his death this past week.

Respected and loved for his gentle manner, integrity and solid work ethic, he will be sorely missed by those lucky enough to have been in his life.

He simply was an uncomplicated, generous husband to his beloved wife Kathy Talley with whom he celebrated a 38 year wedding anniversary on December 20th. Other survivors include his former spouse Irene Talley; two children, James W. Jr. (Rene), and Kimberly Stargatt (Dan); grandchildren Christopher Talley (Jenn), David Talley (Fara), Jacob Stargatt (Rachel) and Sydney Stargatt (Richie); and great grandchildren Conner and Josh Talley and Calvin Stargatt. On Kathy Talley’s side, Erik Hoferer (Kim), Jason Hofer (Angela); grandchildren Austin and Zack Hoferer, Adam, Nick, AJ and Anna Hoferer.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, January 3 at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends are invited to pay their respects beginning at 11:30 am. Interment will take place privately.
