Notes for Daniel James Jr. ARTERS

Daniel James Arters Jr., age 89, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on July 24, 2017, surrounded by the love of his family. Daniel was born on Locust Knoll Farm (formally Green Tree Farm) East Brandywine, PA on July 16, 1928. He was the son of the late Daniel J. Arters Sr. and Mary McNelly. Daniel was a 1946 graduate of Downingtown High School.
For over 50 years Daniel owned and operated his own business (Daniel Arters Jr. Excavating & Hauling). Daniel enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson to Pine Grove for his egg white sandwich every day. He loved to read, play cards, and often indulged in chocolate ice-cream. Daniel loved being in the outdoors and farming with his John Deere tractors. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his stories.
Daniel is survived and missed by his wife of 69 years, Miriam (Wise) Arters, his children: Susan Roth, Nancy Detwiler (Ron), Raymond Arters, Paul Arters (Christine), and June Martin (John) and daughter-in-law Joann Arters. Daniel is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Shannon Roth, Kevin Arters, Dana Hutton, Raymond Arters Jr., Timothy Arters, Jeffery Arters, Holly Stong, Wendy Herb, Jake Arters, and Jamie Martin, and 7 great grandchildren; Darrin and Emily Arters, Rayah and Adayln Arters, Timothy and Travis Arters, and Lucas Herb. He is also survived by 6 brothers: Herman, Howard, Dallas, Martin, John, Gene and 4 sisters: Arlene, Jane, Mabel, and Ruthann.
In addition to his parents, Daniel is preceded in death by his son Daniel J. Arters III “Reds”, son-in-law Gerald, and brothers Rodney and Conley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Daniel’s funeral services on Friday, July 28, 2017, at 11AM, at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Rd, Downingtown, PA, where friends may call from 10-11AM. Burial will immediately follow at Hopewell Church Cemetery, Downingtown. In lieu of flowers a donation in Daniel’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
