Notes for Kenneth Webb MENDENHALL
Kenneth W. Mendenhall, age 88, of Gap, PA, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. He was the husband of Dorothy D. Diem Mendenhall with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on February 14th of this year. Born in Christiana, he was the son of the late H. Parke and Katie E. McMichael Mendenhall. Ken attended Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Gap and was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church in Quarryville where, in the past, he was Trustee and Caretaker of the cemetery. For 30 years, he was employed at the former Trojan Yacht Company. Along with his wife, he owned and operated the Spring Run Suffolk Sheep Ranch and Brintwood Motel and Picnic Grove. Ken enjoyed woodworking, crafts, hunting, fishing, raising his sheep and llamas, and he enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 2 sons, Kenneth P. Mendenhall of Mountville, Robert L., husband of Arlene Thomas Mendenhall of Gap, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Harold E. Mendenhall, Russell Mendenhall and Hazel Taylor.
The funeral service will be held at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA 17527 on Tuesday, October 6, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. William S. Davies, Jr. and Rev. Christine Hileman officiating. Interment will be private in the Sadsbury Friends Burial Grounds. There will be a viewing on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA 17509, and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ken's memory to the 4H of Lancaster County, c/o Greg Neckermann, 1119 Mt. Pleasant Road, Quarryville, PA 17566. These funds will be used to provide scholarships for deserving 4H club members. (Lancaster Newspapers, 10/3/2009)
