Notes for Robert Andrew CARPENTER

Robert A. “Bob” Carpenter, 87, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Roberta “Bobbie” Carpenter, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2015.

Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Irving A. and Gertrude Sylvester Carpenter.

He was a graduate of West Chester High School class of 1948.

Bob worked at Pepperidge Farms in Downingtown for over 33 years, retiring as a material handler. He also worked as a meat cutter for A&P.

He attended St. James Episcopal Church in Downingtown with his wife and was a member of West Chester Baptist Church. Bob was a member of Coatesville Choraliers, Cecilton Lyons Club and Cecilton Senior Center.

Bob leaves behind his children, John Carpenter, Mary Lynn Kessler (Jesse), Timothy Gatchel, Margaret Payne (David), John Gatchel (Mary), and Howard Gatchel; brothers, Lou, Frank, Charlie Carpenter; a sister, Mary Pyle; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Carpenter; two infant daughters; a grandson, Robert W. Gatchel; brothers, William, Walter and Edwin Carpenter; and a sister, Marjorie Dallet.

An evening visitation will be held on Friday, November 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again from 9:30-10:45 a.m., Saturday, November 25th at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 1060 W. Lincoln Highway, COATESVILLE, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be in Upper Octorara Cemetery in Parkesburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E. Marshall Street, West Chester, PA 19380.
