Notes for Harry Joseph Jr. HOBDELL
LONGMEADOW - Harry J. Hobdell, 90, of Longmeadow, beloved husband for 65 years of Marie (Watson) Hobdell, passed away peacefully on Friday, (February 1, 2013) in Avon, CT. Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 20, 1922, son of the late Harry and Mary (Sprogell) Hobdell, he was raised in Philadelphia, PA and had lived in Watertown, CT before moving to Longmeadow over 50 years ago. Harry worked as a mechanical engineer for many years and owned his business, Hobdell Machine Corporation. His business focused on designing precision textile machinery that was used throughout the world. He later sold his business and took a position with Perkins Manufacturing where he stayed until his retirement in 1988. Harry was an active volunteer and spent over 20 years of his retirement caring for seniors in the Longmeadow area. He delivered food for Meals on Wheels and provided transportation for seniors throughout the community. Harry had a strong faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Parish in Longmeadow. Besides his wife Marie, he leaves a son, Harry Hobdell, Jr. of Longmeadow; a daughter, Katherine Magarian and her husband John of Avon, CT; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Hobdell, William and Collin Magarian. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, February 4, 11 a.m., at St. Mary Parish, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery, Longmeadow.
