Notes for Mary DODD

Mary D. Baker passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2015, at Stonegates, Wilmington, DE.

Her husband of 10 years, H. Franklin Baker, Jr., died in 2006. Mary is survived by her 3 children, Harry J. Conaway of Washington, D.C., and his partner, Marcia Richards of Arlington, VA, John D. Conaway and his wife Kathy of Springfield, PA and Virginia (Ginger) Conaway Tronzo and her husband Les of Wilmington; 2 grandchildren, Lauren and Zak; a sister, Ruth D. Baxter and her husband Jim of Stockley, DE; many grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews and 2 step sons, Dave and Frank Baker. Mary was also preceded in death by her first husband of 56 years, H. James Conaway, Jr.

She was born in Camden, NJ and was the daughter of the late Elsie (Kopple) and Frank A. Dodd and graduated from Georgetown, HS in 1940. Mary and her sister Ruth were co-owners of the former, downstate, Stockley Station, a gifts and general store. She also truly loved working at the Furniture Exchange in Montchanin, DE. Mary's husband James was on the Board of Directors of Brandywine College and Mary was quite involved with many of the school actives and social events. Her incredible social characteristics -- she was very happy and at all times wore a smile -- made her perfect for the part. She was also very giving with her time, as she was on the Junior Board at Pelleport and involved with Grace UMC and their Charis House. As well, Mary participated in various local clubs, such as the PEO Club and investment clubs. She loved doing crafts, music and especially the arts.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 11:00 am, at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807.
