Notes for Joan P. WOOD

Joan P. Forwood, formerly of West Chester Joan P. Forwood, 82, formerly of West Chester, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Neighborhood Hospice. She was the widow of James W. Forwood, who died in 1995. Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late Bruce A. Sr. and Lillian Broomall Wood. Joan was a 1950 graduate of West Chester High School, where she excelled in both field hockey and basketball. She was also a cheerleader through her Junior and Senior high school years. Joan was a member of the Queen's Court for the 1949 West Chester Sesquicentennial Celebration of the founding of West Chester. She worked for E.I. DuPont Company, National Foam, Speer Bro. Oil and Delchester Oil Company. After her retirement she did volunteer work for Devereux School, Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, and also Daffodil Days for the ACS. She was a member of the Downingtown Library Board. Many happy days were spent with her family and many friends and her dog companions, "Oliver" and "Patches" at her cottage at Myrtle Beach, S.C. She was an avid reader and her hobbies included playing pinochle, bowling, gardening and solving crossword puzzles. Joan is survived by her children, Sheryl F. Cree (Robin) of Downingtown and James A. Forwood (Kathy) of New London; four grandchildren, Morgan Cree Larson, Justin Cree, Christopher Forwood, Jamie Forwood; a great-grandson, Colton Larson; a brother, Bruce A. Wood, Jr. of West Chester; and a sister, Laurie S. Walton of Chincoteague, Va. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, at the Founds Funeral Home, Inc., 229 South High Street, West Chester, 610-696-0134, where friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Family and friends may also call on the family from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 20th at Founds Funeral Home. Interment will be in Green Mount Cemetery.
