Notes for Elizabeth M. MORGAN

Elizabeth Morgan Stevens, 100, of Gladwyne, who volunteered on behalf of organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Philadelphia Presbyterian Homes, died of a heart attack Sept. 24 at Waverly Heights, a retirement community in Gladwyne.

Mrs. Stevens was born in Philadelphia and grew up in a Chestnut Hill home that is now the site of the Norwood-Fontbonne Academy on Germantown Avenue.

She was tutored at home and later became a volunteer with civic and charitable organizations.

In 1929, she married prominent attorney Lewis M. Stevens, a founder of the Stradley, Ronon, Stevens & Young law firm, who served on Philadelphia City Council and as secretary of the former state Department of Highways, now the Department of Transportation.

She was president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Homes and was a former board member of the organization, now PresbyHomes & Services. Mrs. Stevens delivered meals with Meals on Wheels and sang with Singing City, a Philadelphia ensemble. She was a longtime member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church.

Her husband died in 1963.

Surviving are daughters Marian S. Powers, Holly E. and Lauren R.; son John F.A., 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr.
