Notes for Robert Dale TWINING

R. Dale Twining, 93, of Wyncote, died Aug. 25, 2014, at his son's home in Willow Grove. He was the husband for 57 years of the late Jeanette K. Twining, who died in 2008. A beloved father and grandfather, he is survived by a son, David Twining (Song Suk); daughter Wendy Clymer (Marvin); and five granddaughters. A 1938 graduate of Cheltenham High School, he was employed by the Insurance Company of North America for 36 years and then as a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Twining served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. An avid bird watcher and woodworker since childhood, he was a member of the Wyncote Audubon Society for more than 50 years, serving on the board of directors and several committees. He was a volunteer with the Friends of Fort Washington State Park and a 77-year member of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club. He was also Scoutmaster for Glenside Boy Scout Troop #1 for many years. Interment at Schwenkfelder Church, Palm, Pa., is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: Friends of Fort Washington State Park, 500 S. Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, PA 19034; Wyncote Audubon Society, 1234 Disston Street, Philadelphia, PA 19111; or Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. Arrangements were made by John R. Freed Funeral Home, Glenside.
