Notes for Robert Revelle PYLE

Robert R. Pyle, 74, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Chester and Crum Lynne, died May 8 at Elsmere Veterans Administration Hospital, Delaware.

Born in Linwood, he was the son of the late Norris and Elizabeth Pyle. He lived in Crum Lynne for 18 years before moving to Wilmington 30 years ago.

He worked for Scott Paper Co. as a machine operator for 38 years, retiring in 1984.

Mr. Pyle was a veteran on World War II, serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater.

He was held as a prisoner of war for a year by the Nazis in Czechoslovakia.

Mr. Pyle was a member of 508 Parachute Infantry Regimen Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion and the POW Association of Delaware.

He was a member of St. Paul's P.E. Church in Chester.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mary E. Jimison Pyle; two sons, Robert D. Pyle of Wilmington and Donald L. Pyle of Clayton, Del.; a brother, Alfred Pyle of Glenolden and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the William S. Bleyler Funeral Home, 500 W. 22nd St., Upland, where calling will be after 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood.
