Rad Hundt, of Newtown Square, an avid horseman, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the age of 79.

As a small child he won the lead line class at the Devon Horse Show, and in 2004, some 71 years later, competed again in the family class at Devon.

Throughout most of his life he fox hunted with Radnor Hunt in Malvern. He was chairman of the Hunting Committee for more than 30 years, and for many years volunteered his time to the Radnor Races, the Radnor Hunt 3-Day Event, and Radnor Hunt Pony Club. He also whipped in to the Treweryn and Ardrossan beagles.

Born in Newport, R.I., Mr. Hundt spent a portion of his early years between naval bases at Virginia Beach, Pensacola, and Newport Beach in California, where his father, Rear Admiral Lester T. Hundt, one of the first naval aviators, was stationed.

His mother, Rebecca Stout, was an early Master of Foxhounds for the Princess Anne Hunt in Virginia. Her two sisters also married naval aviators, and during the Second World War the three families lived together at Tarleton in Berwyn.

Mr. Hundt had a lifelong interest in military matters. He served in the First City Troop of Philadelphia and was a member of numerous historical societies.

He also served on the boards of the Free Quaker Society and the Bryn Mawr Hound Show.

Professionally, Mr. Hundt spent 40 years in the trust department at the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a graduate of Malvern Prep and the University of Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife and companion of 30 years, Frances; his brother, George Stout Hundt Sr.; his nephew, George Stout Hundt Jr.; and two nieces, Mary Hundt McLoughlin and Ashley Hundt Ventrone.

A memorial service will be held at St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 689 Sugartown Road, Malvern, PA 19355.
