Notes for Charlotte Mae JACKSON

Charlotte Cloud Gimbutas, age 97, of Wilmington, DE went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2012. She was a 1932 graduate of Newark High School, and a 1936 graduate of The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington, DE. Charlotte became Head Nurse of the Memorial's Ambulatory Service, and worked as a private duty nurse for many years. She retired from Nursing in 1979.

Before moving to Shipley Manor in 2011, Charlotte resided in her home, in Woodcrest, near Conrad High School, which her husband, Nathan III, built for her and their sons, Nathan and Peter, in 1950.

Charlotte loved to travel, play cards, dance, and tell stories about her early days in Newark and Wilmington. She was especially fond of reminiscing about how her father, Price Jackson, and mother Cora struggled, but persevered in maintaining their family by sewing, cleaning, and working in the shipyards at Edgemoor, and weaving mills in Newark. After retirement from nursing, Charlotte spent countless hours volunteering her services as a tutor and mentor to middle school children. In her later years, she found great joy visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reading them classic children stories, adding her own humorous interpretations, and watching them play.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her first husband Nathan Cloud III in 1965; her second husband Stasys Gimbutas; her sister Edith Banks; and her beloved canines, Dusty and Waffles.

She is survived by her children, Nathan and Peter Cloud, and their spouses Carolyn Taylor Cloud and Marcia Maucher Cloud, all of Wilmington. Charlotte is also survived by her six grandchildren: Karen Rombach and her husband Stephen, Michael Cloud and his wife Arleta, Nathan Andrew Cloud and Jennifer Adkins, Jason Cloud, Kelli Cloud and Paul Augustine, and Heather Cloud and her husband Allen Sharp.
