Notes for George Dix EYRE

George Dix Eyre, 86, of Greenville, Ill., formerly of Media, died April 17 at Greenville Regional Hospital.
Born in Chester, he was the son of the late H. Weston and Alma Dix Eyre. Mr. Eyre was raised in Marcus Hook, and graduated from Eddystone High School.
Mr. Eyre worked for Scott Paper in Chester before taking leave to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 29 missions over Europe in a B-17. Following his service, Mr. Eyre rejoined Scott Paper and worked as a supervisor before retiring in 1981.
Mr. Eyre and his wife of 65 years, Josephine DiMaio Eyre, wintered in Florida for many years, later moving there before relocating to Greenville in 2004. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson, Fla., and attended Greenville Free Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Barkman, and a great-granddaughter, Meg Olivia Barkman.
Survivors: In addition to his wife, daughters, Barbara E. Butts of Greenville, Patricia E. Barkman of West Chester sister, Alma Margaret Scarpitti of Claymont, Del. three grandchildren three great-grandchildren.
Service: 11:30 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Westtown and Glen Mills roads, Thornton.
Burial: Edgwood Memorial Park.
