Thomas E. "Bump" Smedley
Age 81, of Milton, DE, formerly of New Castle, died on November 27, 2010.
Bump was born in Wilmington to the late James and Nellie Smedley and graduated in 1947 from Salesianum High School. He proudly served in the Navy Seabees during the Korean War. Bump spent his entire career working as an electrician. He was a former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Castle.
His wife, Shirley, died in 1991, and he is survived by their 5 daughters: Elizabeth S. Murphy, Cynthia L. Simeone, Judith M. Fortunato, Mary Katherine Hewlett and Jacqueline G. Toner; 11 grandchildren; and his companion, Mary Irene Rice.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, December 1 at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.), where a viewing will be held from 11 am to 12 noon. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE following the funeral.
