Notes for Horace Clifford Jr. KIRK
H. Clifford Kirk Jr., 85, of Media, a retired salesman, died Aug. 19 at Taylor Hospital.
Born in Springfield, he grew up on his family’s farm in the Gradyville section of Edgmont and was a resident of the Media area for more than 55 years. A graduate of Friends Central, he was a member of Penn State University’s Class of 1946. Mr. Kirk was employed by Philadelphia Spring Co. before his retirement in 1990.
A longtime member of the Republican Party, he was a volunteer, community supporter and a former Upper Providence township committeeman for the third district. Mr. Kirk traced his roots to John Kirk, who settled in Upper Darby in the 1680s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Media, a former Media Little League baseball coach and a fan of Penn State University sports. Mr. Kirk was the brother of the late Elizabeth Templin and Caroline Nesbitt.
Survivors: Wife of more than 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Kirk; daughter, Beth Elko of the Havertown section of Haverford; David Kirk of Media; five grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, 350 W. State St., Media.
