World Famous Yachting Cinematographer

John Scott Biddle, 83, of Beavertail Road, died Wednesday, Oct.1, 2008 at John Clarke Health Care Center in Middletown. He was the husband of Amy (McKay) Biddle of Philadelphia, whom he married in 1977.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. on June 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Brigadier General Nicholas and Sarah (Lippincott) Biddle.

He served in the United States Army during WWII and during the Korean War with the First Philadelphia City Troop. He was a prominent yachting cinematographer, famous for his America's Cup coverage. A member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, he served as a lay reader and member of the choir for many years. He also sang with the Jamestown Community Chorus.

He is also survived by his daughter Sophie Biddle Hakim of Los Angeles, his son John Scott Biddle, Jr. of Northampton, Mass., his stepchildren, Winifred Lane vanRoden of New York, N.Y., Peter Cook vanRoden of Stamford, Conn. and Julia McKay vanRoden of Old Greenwich, Conn., as well as his siblings, Nicholas Biddle, Jr., and Sarah Lee Stokes of Philadelphia and Wharton Biddle of Jamestown; and eight grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Joanna Biddle Johnson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008, at 11 a.m., in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial will be private.
