Notes for George Morris Jr. PIERSOL

GEORGE Morris Piersol Jr., a retired executive of SmithKline Corp. and a decorated Army veteran of World War II, died Jan. 3. He was 92 and lived in North Branford, Conn., but formerly lived in Chestnut Hill.
During World War II, Piersol served in the 14th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, part of Gen. George S. Patton's 2nd Armored Division. His unit participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Normandy.
He attained the rank of captain and received the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
He was born in Philadelphia to Dr. George Morris Piersol and Helen Delano Piersol. He was a graduate of the William Penn Charter School and graduated in 1938 from Yale University, where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall.
In 1942, he married Jean Mc-Kenzie Simonin, who died in 1981.
Piersol worked for SmithKline for 35 years and retired in 1976 as administrative manager of the research department.
He and his wife then moved to Shelter Island, N.Y., where he lived until he moved to Evergreen Woods, a retirement home, in North Branford in 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Jean Piersol Miller and Mary Piersol Bowman; a son, George Morris Piersol III; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Noon May 9 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Shelter Island.
