Anne Eliot Putnam, daughter of Mrs. Rodman King Tilt of Bedford, N.Y., and the late Sumner Putnam, was married yesterday to Peter Green Canby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Courtlandt Canby of Ossining, N.Y. The Rev. Arthur W. Hargate performed the ceremony in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford.
Frances P. Kalamaras was matron of honor for her sister and Bridget C. Thorne served as maid of honor.
Henry Canby served as best man for his brother.
The bride, who will keep her name, is an assistant press secretary to Mayor Koch. She was graduated from the Chapin School and cum laude from Radcliffe College. Her father was president and editor of Ives Washburn Inc., New York book publishers, and her stepfather is retired advertising director of Sports Afield, a Hearst publication.
Mr. Canby, who is in the research department of The New Yorker magazine, graduated from the Pomfret School and was graduated from Swarthmore College. He is a grandson of the late Capt. Burton H. Green, U.S.N., and the late Mrs. Green of Sharon, Conn., and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seidel Canby of New York. His father is an editor with the Hudson Group, book publishers in Pleasantville, N.Y.
