Notes for Marilee CARPENTER
Our beloved mother Marilee - grandmother, confidant, and dearest of friends - passed away on January 2, 2010 in the family home she built at 322 Ruby Avenue almost forty years ago. She was eighty-five years young. As she brought her first-born son into this world in her arms fifty-three years ago, she passed peacefully in her son's arms surrounded by family and friends.
Marilee was born in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois to Anthony and Leonore Hill Carpenter on August 29, 1924. At sixteen, she moved to California with her younger brother Roger. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1942.
While working at Twentieth Century Fox Studios as a production assistant, she met aspiring actor Denver Pyle. They were married in 1955 and brought two sons, David and Tony, into the world in 1956 and 1957 respectively. Marilee advised and assisted Denver throughout his fifty-year career in motion pictures and television - uninterrupted by their divorce in 1970 - until his death in 1997.
Marilee was a proud homemaker for fifty-five years, creating beautiful homes in Toluca Lake, Burbank, and on Balboa Island. She was a devoted and loving single parent. A "Local" on Balboa Island for nearly 50 years, Marilee was active in her church, St. John Vianney, as well as in various bridge groups and the Newport Beach Yacht Club.
In addition to David and Tony, she is survived by four grandchildren Henry (20), Mary Lynn (18), Annie (15), and Willie (15); to those four she was always affectionately known as their beloved "Gran."
Marilee's effervescent smile, infectious laughter, sharp wit and loving heart will be missed by all who knew her.
