Notes for William Sidney DRAYTON
From the 1912 Newspaper article:
William Sidney Drayton, third of the sons of Colonel William Drayton, was born October 6, 1813. Like his next older brother, he served in the United States Navy, having been appointed a Midshipman, July 16, 1832. He was promoted to Passed Midshipman, June 23, 1838, and to Lieutenant, April 1, 1842. After the war with Mexico, in which he served with distinction, he resigned from the Navy, and settled in New York City, where he engaged in the shipping business with his brother-in-law, Mortimer Livingston.
He died in New York City, February 8, 1860, having married, October 23, 1850, Silvia Stephanie Livingston, daughter of Mortimer and Silvia De Grasse (nee Depau) Livingston. Mrs. Drayton, who was born June 13, 1830, and died November 16, 1882, was a representative of the distinguished Livingston family of New York, a great-granddaughter of General Morgan Lewis, Governor of New
York, and a great-great granddaughter of Francis Lewis, one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
To William Sidney and Silvia Stephanie (nee Livingston) Drayton four children were born, as follows: Mortimer Livingston, Maud, Percival Langdon and Catharine Livingston. The eldest and
the youngest died in infancy. The other two reached maturity, but neither married.
