Notes for George Edward III EARNSHAW

George Edward Earnshaw III, 74, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Friday, March 26, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Earnshaw was born Nov. 9, 1929, the son of George Edward Earnshaw Jr. of Westchester, Pa., and Jane Levis Carter of Gradyville, Pa.

Mr. Earnshaw had been a commercial and news photographer in the Washington, D.C. region for 50 years. His employers included Harris & Ewing, James R. Dunlop, John I. Thompson, Emerson Research, and Campbell Photo Service. He was a staff photographer for the Gaithersburg Gazette from 1981-1988. He was a freelancer for The Wall Street Journal’s National Observer, the Milwaukee Tribune and several Montgomery, Md. weeklies. He served in the U.S. Army, where he received his photography training with the Army Photo School in Fort Monmouth, N.J., and spent two years with a service intelligence group at Fort McClellan, Ala.

He married Mary Virginia Gibbons Webb in Washington, D.C. in 1956.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Cathy Huston of Coatesville, Pa.; a son, Michael Ash Earnshaw of Gaithersburg; a sister, Jeannine Earnshaw Adams of Medfield, Mass., a half-sister, Martha Nolte King of San Francisco; a stepson, James Scott Webb; a stepgrandson and his former wife, Barbara Holland of Chevy Chase, Md.

A funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baltimore Road, Rockville, Md.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. A prayer service will start at 7:30 p.m.
