Notes for Jesse Kersey BONSALL

Dr. Jesse Kersey Bonsall was by birth a Delaware countian, studied medicine and graduated at the University of Pennsylvania, and for a time located in Schuylkill County, but an opportunity offering, he went to Manila, the capital of the Philippine Islands, where he practiced successfully for several years. In 1842 he returned to Delaware county, having accumulated while abroad what at that time ws regarded as an ample fortune. Here he pursued his professional calling, residing in Chester until his death, Nov. 7, 1858, aged fifty-one years.

Death Notice
At his residence, in this Borough, on Sunday morning last, J.K. BONSALL, M.D., in the fifty first year of his age. The deceased was for several years past, a resident physician of this place, and his demise will be keenly felt, not only by his immediate relatives, but by many devoted friends. He graduated at the University of Pennsylvania with honor, after which he located for a short time in Schuylkill county in this State. An opportunity presented itself, and he visited Manila, the capital of the Phillipine Islands, where he practiced successfully for several years. On his return to his native country, he resumed his professional calling in this Borough, and soon obtained a permanent and lucrative practice. He was an ardent admirer of the science of medicine, and devoted himself to it conscientiously, and with a desire to contribute his best efforts to relieve suffering humanity, without reference to emolument - a large portion of his services being gratuitous. He gained the confidence of his fellowmen by strict probity, and in his social intercourse he was an agreeable companion and a kind friend. His remains were deposited in the Presbyterian burial grounds at Ridley.
