Francis Farquhar Bacon, 88, of Moorestown, a retired learning-disabilities specialist for the Camden School District, died of heart failure Sunday at the Lutheran Home in Moorestown.
Mr. Bacon, who was born in Lansdowne, lived in Germany for a year while his father, Francis Rogers Bacon, supervised a child-hunger relief program for the American Friends Service Committee.
When he returned to the area, Mr. Bacon enrolled in Westtown School in Chester County. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from what is now Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a master's degree in psychology of reading from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bacon was a conscientious objector during World War II and worked in environmental preservation projects in California, New York and Tennessee.
He taught in several private schools before becoming an English teacher at Rancocas Valley Regional High School in 1956. He then taught English at schools in Williamstown and later became a learning disabilities specialist in Camden. He retired in 1982.
He married Julia Armour in 1941. They later divorced. He married Jeri Hale in 1986.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bacon is survived by son Albert; daughters Rachel Bull, Rebecca Morgan, Sara Jane Duffey, Mary Ann Bacon and Patricia Louise Bacon; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday at Marlton Assembly of God Church, 625 E. Main St., where a memorial service will begin at 2 p.m.
