Notes for Jacob WEAVER
Jacob Weaver was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania but left at an early age to train in Philadelphia in business. When he became of legal age he went into business with Henry Volkmar, Jr. They operated a stove and grate business in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia City Directories show the business as a grate manufacturing business at 121 South 3rd Street in 1840. 1840 also shows Henry, Sr. as having a stove manufacturing business close by at 325 North 2nd Street. Henry Sr. was Jacob's father in law as well as Henry Volkmar's father. In 1856 the business is listed as Weaver and Volkmar, Heaters and Grates. In 1860 the business is shown as Weaver and Volkmar, Furnaces and Ranges at 275 South 3rd Street in Philadelphia. Jacob lived at various address in Philadelphia usually next door or within a block or two of his partner. In 1860 they were both shown living at the same address, 2203 Green Street. In 1883, however, the business is listed as Weaver and Company, Jacob and Frank P. Weaver at 269 and 275 South 3rd Street and their residence is listed as Media. Henry Volkmar, Jr does not show in the Philadelphia City Directory in 1863.
