Notes for John Hibberd BARTRAM

John was educated in the public schools of Willistown and West Chester and at Daniel Foulk's Boarding School in Montgomery County. In 1857 he located on his farm in Westtown Township, consisting of one hundred and forty acres. For almost half a century, he conducted farming operations on an extensive scale, particularly fruit and asparagus raising, trucking and dairying. He at one time served as director of the Philadelphia Farmer's Market in Philadelphia where he conducted a stand from its origin until it closed. He was for forty years a member of the Independent School District No. 2, serving as a treasurer during a portion of that time. He was a director of the Farmer's National Bank of West Chester and member and overseer of the Hicksite Friends' Meeting, Goshen, PA.
