Emilie Lennig Wood, 71, wife of the founder of the Wawa convenience-store chain, died Thursday at her home in Wawa, Delaware County.

She was the widow of Grahame Wood, who founded the Wawa stores in 1964. He died in 1982. His grandfather, George Wood, founded the Wawa dairy business.

A native of Philadelphia, she graduated from Springside School in Chestnut Hill. She had lived in Wawa since 1949.

Mrs. Wood was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Concordville, the Gulph Mills Golf Club, the Acorn Club of Philadelphia, the Four Counties Garden Club of America, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Peale Society of the Academy of the Fine Arts.

She also had memberships in the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society, the Philadelphia Zoo, the Brandywine Museum in Chadds Ford and the Pocono Lake Preserve.

She was active for more than 10 years as a Chester Heights planning commissioner.

Survivors: sons, Grahame Jr., Frederick L. and Christopher W.; daughters, Emilie W. Corbin, Sibyl W. Borden and Dorothea S.; 13 grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, St. John's Episcopal Church, Concordville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
