Deceased Name: Charles T. WICKERSHAM
Mr. Charles T. Wickersham, Sr. age 85 of New Castle, DE, died on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Christiana Hospital.
Born in West Chester, PA on January 27, 1919, Mr. Wickersham was the son of the late Samuel Garfield Wickersham and Anna Richards Wickersham.
He worked as a spectographer for the former Lehigh Testing Laboratory in Wilmington and later for the Crown Foundry in Chester, PA, where he retired.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Wickersham proudly served his country in the European Theatre as a member of the First Army, 9th Division, 60th Infantry.
For bravery and injuries sustained in battle, he was awarded both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
His beloved wife, Bettyjean Mitchell Wickersham, died in 1999.
He was also preceded in death by a son, David B. Wickersham, in 2001.
He is survived by 3 children, Debra. J. Redding and her husband, John of Elkton, MD, Beverly A. Otto of New Castle and Charles T. Wickersham, Jr. of New Castle; 4 sisters, Esther Allcott of St. Petersburg, FL, Helen Russell of TX, Ann Casella of CT and Elizabeth Fry of West Chester, PA; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at the SPICER-MULLIKIN FUNERAL HOME, 1000 N. Dupont Pkwy., New Castle.
Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
Friends may call 6-8 pm on Monday, November 15, 2004, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National World War II Memorial, 2300 Clarendon Blvd., Ste. 501, Arlington, VA 22201.
