Notes for William III BIDDLE

WILLIAM BIDDLE, III, of Mt. Hope, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, b. 1698, “Mt. Hope;” d. 1756 in Philadelphia, to which city he removed with his family, 1720-1730; m. 3d April, 1730, in Philadelphia, Mary SCULL, b. 2d August, 1709, d. 9th May, 1790, dau. of Nicholas SCULL, b. 1687, d. 1761, Surveyor-General, participated in the Indian Walk of 1737, elected Sheriff of Philadelphia, 1744, m. 1708, Abigail HEAP, who d. 21st May, 1753. Nicholas SCULL was the eldest son of Nicholas SCULL who came to Pennsylvania in the ship Bristol Merckant arriving at Chester, 10th October, 1685, The progenitor of the family was sir John SCULL, a Norman, one of the twelve Norman Knights mentioned in Burke's "Landed Gentry," who accompanied Newmarch into North Wales and eventually conquered that country.
