FRED H. LUKENS, 75, RED CROSS VOLUNTEER

Fred Howard Lukens, 75, of 1872 Villa Court, formerly of West Chester, died Thursday at the Healthcare Center of Homestead Village following a short illness.

He was the husband of Suzanne M. Lukens. The couple observed their 48th anniversary on June 7.

For 15 years, he was in sales with Owens-Corning Fiberglass. Previously, he spent 20 years as a sales manager for Trylon Inc. of West Chester.

A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army at New Cumberland and at Virginia Beach during World War II.

For many years, he sang with several church choirs and had been a charter member of the West Chester Chapter of SPEBSQSA, a nationwide barbershop group with whom he toured England, Wales, Belgium and Germany in 1976.

A 32nd degree Mason, he joined the Cassia Blue Lodge 273 in Ardmore in 1946. Later, he transferred to West Chester Lodge 322. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Allentown.

An avid hiker, he was a member of the Chester County Trail Club for many years.

After retiring, he volunteered for American Red Cross, delivering blood throughout Chester County.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Rebecca L., wife of Chris Dunlap of Hummelstown, and Deborah L., wife of Everett Randall of West Chester; two sons, David L. and Fred H., both of West Chester; a brother, Joe of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Helen Kummer of Honey Brook and Katherine Rowe, of Arnold, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
