Notes for Monroe Livingston Jr. NUTE

Monroe L. Nute Jr., 79, of Kennett Square, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at his home.

He was the husband of Audrey Stover Nute, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Monroe Sr. and Rose Evans Nute.

Monroe attended Mercersburg Academy and West Nottingham Academy, Colora, Md. He graduated from Kennett High School in 1946.

A lifetime resident of Kennett Square, Monroe owned and operated Nute Motor Co., a Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge Trucks retailer in Kennett Square, for 45 years, retiring in 1984. He was an antiques dealer for the past 20 years.

Monroe was a longtime member and past Sunday school teacher at the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, and a 32nd-Degree Mason. He was a member of the Kennett Lodge #475 F&AM, a past member and president of the Kennett Square Lions Club, served on the board of directors of the Union Hill Cemetery, and was a member of the Kennett Golf and Country Club. In his earlier years, he was an active member of the Kennett Fire Company #1 and coached Little League and Kennett Community Basketball.

He enjoyed hunting in Wellsboro, fishing, golf, sports, woodworking and antiques. Monroe played "Taps" on his trumpet, at the age of 12, at the New York World's Fair.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Monroe L. Nute III of Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Lynne Nute of Long Beach and Deborah Tavoni of Lincoln University; two grandchildren, Rachel Hillworth of Coatesville and Danielle Tavoni of Wilmington, Del., three great-grandchildren, Marissa Hillworth, Michael Hillworth and Vincent Porto; a brother, J. Thomas Nute and his wife, Joyce, of Millsboro, Del.; and a sister, Jane Carr of Catonsville, M
