Notes for Robert James KERR

Robert James Kerr, 80, of Media, died June 6 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.

Born in Johnstown, he was the son of the late Margaret and Oscar W. Kerr II. Educated in the Swarthmore school system, he graduated from Swarthmore High School on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He graduated with a degree in chemistry from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, in 1952.

Mr. Kerr was employed by DuPont Co., retiring in 1984 after 32 years of service.

He was a member of DuPont's research and development team that developed Crolyn Chromium Dioxide video and audiotape. After his retirement, he began R.J. Kerr Audio/Video Services, which specialized in video editing and duplicating.

He served in the Navy as an electronics technician from November 1944-August 1946.

Mr. Kerr was active in community theater, appearing in more than 50 theatrical productions. He produced and directed 20 plays and musicals. He was recognized by the Players Club of Swarthmore in 1999 for his years of service.

He was the co-recipient of the 1963 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Senior Award for contributions to the field of audio. He was the recipient of the 1980 Technical Service Industry, Special Educational Award. He was the author of numerous articles and books on video recording and editing. In 1979, he taped and produced a documentary on the shrine at Loreto, Italy.

He was the brother of the late Oscar William Kerr III and the grandfather of the late Alexandra.

Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Marjorie H. Kerr; sons, Robert A. Kerr of Wilmington, Del., David A. Kerr of Cherry Hill, N.J., brothers, Terrance W. Kerr of Vass, N.C., Michael E. Kerr of Bethesda, Md.; four grandchildren.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Media Friends Meeting House, 125 W. Third St., Media.
