Notes for Charles Palmer MCVAUGH

Charles P. McVaugh, Sr.
Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on May 5, 2009, at his home.

He was an Army Air Force veteran of WW II. He served with the 8th Air Force 511th Bomb Group as a radio operator in a B17G. He flew 23 missions over Germany and won numerous medals with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. Charles retired in 1984 as an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local # 313 in Wilmington after 35 years service. He was past master of Unity Lodge # 32 A.F. & A.M. in Newport and a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. Charles and Betty enjoyed traveling between the Rocky Mountains and Florida and visited all 50 states.

Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty H. McVaugh, 2 sons; Charles P. McVaugh, Jr. and his wife Anne S. of Avondale, PA, and John N. McVaugh, Sr. and his wife Sharon W. of Leesburg, VA; 1 brother, John McVaugh of Hockessin; 3 sisters, Helen Knowles of Stanton, Josephine Deats of Smyrna, and Edith Davis of Wilmington; and 4 grandchildren, Charles S.,Peter M., Jennifer Lynn and John N. McVaugh, Jr.

A memorial service will be held on Friday May 8, at 11 am, in the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Rd. Wilm. DE 19808. Interment will be private.

The family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702-B Kirkwood Highway, Wilm., DE 19805; or to Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.

Find A Grave contributor Sherry, has discovered that this person is buried in Hockessin Friends Cemetery, Hockessin, Delaware. The obituary doesn't specifically state that he is buried in Red Clay. Anyone interested should check with the respective churches for the actual location of his grave.
