Notes for Martha TAYLOR

Martha Taylor Slattery died at home on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. The eldest daughter of Col. John O. and Helen Taylor, Marti was born in Honululu, Hawaii, on October 3, 1931. Her marriage to William J. Slattery, Jr. resulted in four boys: William James, John Taylor, Michael Clymer, and Price Wetherill Slattery. Predeceased by her mother and father, her sister Helen Peerson, and her sons John and Price, she is survived by William and Michael; by two grandchildren, John Price and Rachael Clymer Slattery; and by her sister Shirley Goglin. After her divorce from Mr. Slattery, Marti moved to Montgomery and worked first as a travel agent, later as a steel buyer for Gamble Steel. Marti also volunteered at the Montgomery Little Theater, eventually becoming one of the organization's directors, and was active in the Dexter Avenue Methodist Church, where for many years she cooked meals for the hungry. A brief memorial service in her honor will be held Sunday, September 16, at The New Church at 301 Dexter. Marti would have liked any memorial donations to be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the name of her beloved son, Price Wetherill Slattery.
