Notes for Franklin Dinwiddie DUPHORN

The son of John & Rosanna (Dinwiddie) Duphorn, in 1860, he was clerk living in Gettysburg, Adams County, and stood 5' 5" tall.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered in Harrisburg April 20, 1861, as a private with Co. E, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 26, 1861. He then enlisted in Gettysburg September 2, 1861, and mustered into federal service at York September 25 as a private with Co. F, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. His superiors considered him to be "a first-class young man" and promoted him to sergeant. When he was detached as division clerk at Winchester May 1863 and again to the division ordnance office during the winter of 1863 - 64, Capt. James Adair protested because he wanted Duphorn to remain with the company. Franklin honorably discharged at term's end October 13, 1864, in York.
He married Sadie K. Hoke, but children, if any, are unknown. In April 1870, he sold his half finished home and twelve acres of land to Charles Buehler, his colonel with the 87th Pennsylvania. Sadie died March 26, 1871, and he married Jennie Frances Virginia Reed June 11, 1874, in Baltimore, Maryland, fathering John Franklin (b. 1876), William Reed (b. 1878), and Bertha (b. 1879 - married Edward Everett Pyle). He became an attorney and by 1897 lived in Pylesville (Whiteford), Harford County, Maryland. February 4 also reported as a date of death.
