Donald R. Chalfant
Age 84, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully of Pancreatic and Liver Cancer at Christiana Hospital on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
Born in Wilmington, Donald was the son of the late Ralph and Edith (Ponsell) Chalfant. For 41 years, he served in the Army National Guard, retiring in 1986 as 1st Sargent. He also held jobs with the A&P and C.P.G. Gas Station. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Church and served as an usher and was a member of the Athletic Association, the Carnival Committee and Bingo. He was predeceased by his wife, Stella (Ogonowski) Chalfant, his son, John Chalfant and his brother, James Chalfant.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Hanna of Wilmington, daughter-in-law Cindy Chalfant of Wilmington, Thomas of Wilmington, Donna Roth and her husband, Russ of Lake Forest, CA and Teresa Emory and her husband, Mark of Wilmington; 15 grandchildren: Nicholas (Corinne) and Daniel Hanna, Elizabeth (Tim) Procak, Andrew and Gregory Chalfant, Melissa, Lauren, Katelyn and Christine Chalfant, Jacqueline, Mitchell and Zachary Roth, Sarah, Anna and Joshua Emory; two great grandchildren: Koa Hanna and Julianna Procak; his brothers, Ralph (Minnie) of Texas and Harold (Janet) of Wilmington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17th at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Monday evening between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
