Notes for Grace Eleanor NEWLIN
Grace E. Mink Grace E. (nee Newlin) Mink, 95, of Media, died peacefully at her home in Riddle Village on July 1. She was the co-founder of the business that operated the oriental rug department for the John Wanamaker department store chain.
Born in Philadelphia, she later lived in Colwyn. She was a graduate of Darby-Colwyn High School. She married Kenneth L. Mink of Aldan and the two of them founded the business that carries on today at Macy's stores nationwide. She traveled extensively during her career, visiting all the major continents and circumnavigating the globe several times.
She was a frequent visitor to Iran and India and was one of the early Americans to enter China after it reopened to the West. In 1959, Grace moved to Towson, MD, where she raised her three sons and met some of her dearest friends. Before moving to Riddle Village, she had homes in Newtown Square, Clearwater Beach FL and on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.
Her husband died in 1995. In addition to travel, she was devoted to her church and charity work, and her family. Survivors: Three sons, David (Dorothy) of Bonita Springs FL, Kenneth, Jr. (JJ) of Poway CA and Frederick (Janice) of Newark DE, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Grace will be remembered for her sunny disposition and love of adventure.
She was affectionately known as Amazing Grace and has a street named for her in Earleville, MD. Mrs. Mink donated her body to research at Humanity Gifts Registry. Memorial Service: Will be held Monday, July 22, 11:00 a.m., the Aldan Union Church, Providence Road, Aldan PA. Friends may greet the family at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers: Donations are requested for the Aldan Union Church Missionary Fund, Aldan PA 19108.
