Notes for John Lindsay WINDLE

On Saturday, March 23, 2013, John Lindsay Windle, 81, went gently "into the light of the Lord" with his wife, Marjorie (Marty) beside him and family surrounding him in love.
John's life revolved around his family and his profession as a professional engineer specializing in broadcast and transmission towers.
He was always fascinated with tall structures. His sister Harriet gave him a Tinker Toy set when he was in fifth or sixth grade, and the first thing he built was a windmill, the tallest structure in the book that came with the set.
He designed some of the tallest towers in the world, reaching heights of 2,000 feet. In comparison, the Eiffel Tower is 985 feet tall. Not too bad for a "Tinker Toy engineer" who was deathly afraid of heights.
He presented many publications at the National Association of Broadcasters, contributed writings to Structural Standards for Steel Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures, and contributed a chapter to "Structural Condition Assessment" by R.T. Ratay, P.E.
He was vice president and chief engineer for Stainless Inc., of North Wales.
After retirement he continued as an independent consultant until December 2012.
He was a 1966 graduate of Drexel University.
During the years when his children were growing up he was active in many organizations: president of Glen Acres and Paoli Pike PTAs; three-time president of East Side Little League, sometime manager and umpire; Indian Guides; and Boy Scout Troop 85.
Later in life he was president of West Chester Lions, member of the Men of Chester County Hospital Auxiliary, and treasurer of West Goshen Sewer Authority.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of West Chester and former longtime, very active member of Goshen Baptist Church.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marty; children, Philip, husband of Teresa of Howard, Pa., Patty Wilson, wife of Bob of West Chester, and Ken Windle of West Chester; grandchildren, Jennifer Hixson, wife of Brian, Cindy Wilson, Christy Wilson, Clara, Marsha, and Dustin Windle; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hixson.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 26, at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will follow in the Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, Birmingham Township.
