Notes for Albert Nicholson III GARRETT

Albert N Garrett III, age 80, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1971, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his son Nick at his side, due to complications of COPD.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Albert was born on September 5, 1933 in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania to Albert Nicholson Garrett Jr and Katherine Elizabeth McCandless. He married Elsa Edna Oberto on August 2, 1954 in the Canal Zone. He was a member of the Divine Redeemer Catholic Community and The Retired Enlisted Association.

Albert enjoyed his years as a military soldier where his area of expertise was in the Air Defense program, working with the Nike-Ajax missile launcher as well as the Hawk missile programs. His career placed him in numerous countries to include Panama, Germany and Korea. He retired from the Army in 1974 after serving for 22 years with the rank of Sergeant Major.

Albert loved playing basketball and baseball in his youth playing softball into his early forties. He also loved dancing with Elsa, music, laughter and a good joke. He cherished the many friendships he had and was adored by his wife who was the love of his life.

He is survived by his four children: Delsa (Ron) Rose of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Albert (Laura) Garrett, IV of Colorado Springs; Cheryl (Keith) Dritlein of Aurora, Colorado; and Ralph Garrett of Denver.

Albert has eight wonderful grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Barbara Fenwick (Stuart) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elsa.

Friends are welcome to attend the Interment this Friday, April 18 at 10:15am in staging area C at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
