Notes for Franklin Thomas PYLE

Franklin T. Pyle, Sr.

Age 75 died Monday, May 21, 2001 at the home of his son, surrounded by his family.
Frank was formerly a Wilmington Police Inspector. He was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and joined the Wilmington Police Force September 4, 1947. He was promoted through the ranks and was Inspector of Operations when he retired July 7, 1969.
He was a life member of the Delaware Association of Police and was an active member of the Pushmobile Derby committee in its early years and served as chairman several times. He was also a charter member of the F.O.P. He was a "distinguished pistol expert" and a member of the WPD pistol team, winning several trophies in competition with other police agencies. He was the officer in charge of operations during the civil disturbance in Wilmington in 1968.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre operations as well as the South China Sea. He was called to duty from the reserves during the Korean War and served as a Master Sergeant Investigator with the 34th Criminal Investigation Division assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Camp Breckenridge, KY.
In 1968 he was honored by the American Legion Post #1 with the Legion's "Certificate of Merit" for his "long and honorable service to the community". He was a life member of the VFW Post #615.
Shortly after his retirement from the WPD, Mr. Pyle founded and was president of the Safety Equipment Company, Inc., which supplied lights and barricades at road construction sites.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lillian Pyle, who died in 1997. He is survived by his children, Jacquelyn A. Pyle of Wilmington, Deb Cebenka of Wilmington, Eileen M. O'Neal and her husband Thomas of Sherwood Park and Franklin T. Pyle, Jr. and his wife Diane of Pike Creek; his sister, Kathryn Krakowski of Middle-town; and his beloved grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Amanda, Frankie III, Ben and Allison.
